Visual Studio Service Pack 1

If you are not running Service Pack 1, you will experience an error when trying to create a model the standard way. Normally you can add a solution item and choose the "Model" category and create a model file. This does not work in the pre-SP1 version of Visual Studio 2008. If you are running a previous version, please follow this work around to create a model.

To create a new model, right click on a solution in the Project Explorer and add a new item of "Text File" type. Name is anything you like but change the extension from "txt" to "wsgen". When you open the new "wsgen" file, a designer is loaded with the model. This will create an empty model on disk and from here you can interact with it like any other model.
